Roger Zimmerman, MSc, founded CTO Boston in 2002 to offer his rich experience in network design and administration to small- and medium-sized businesses in the Boston area. He is able to untangle and manage complex networks of computer-related technology, from very small to large scale.

Roger distinguishes himself by first focusing on understanding his clients’ needs, making appropriate recommendations for the best value solutions, and then communicating complex technical concepts in understandable language so that clients can make educated decisions. His special skill is integrating a broad understanding of computer technology and organizational needs with excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills. He has a reputation for being able to figure out solutions when others have given up.

Roger first gained expertise in computer networking through his nine years of experience with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. During that time, he stayed at the forefront of the industry in his development of their Ethernet backbone, at the time the largest hospital computer network in the nation. His many projects included helping to create a wireless network of handheld devices within compliance of HIPAA electronic systems, which provided to orthopedic surgeons a paperless alternative to bringing patient information into examination rooms. He was also instrumental in establishing the hospital’s first Website.

Additionally, for four years Roger worked with IBM to provide technical support for a 400-user network of high tech professionals at their Lotus Notes division in Westford, Massachusetts. Notably, a project he led provided multi-tiered backup support for 75 production and test servers.

As owner and operator of CTO Boston, Roger has successfully provided technical consulting and management for growing companies needing on-going technical support, but not yet on a full-time basis. Primary industries have included biotechnology, non-profit (both religious and non-religious), high-tech, consulting, and retail.

Roger obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a Masters of Science in Computer Information Systems from Bentley College. Roger is Windows 2003 MCSE certified.
